What is Botox for masseter/bruxism?
Our practitioners are able to use Botox injections to reduce the size of the masseter muscle to shape the face and avoid teeth grinding. Strong jaw (masseter) muscles give the impression of a wide jaw, which often provides a more masculine look to the face. Depending on personal preference, this can be deemed unflattering for some people and cause a lack of confidence. Targeted Botox injectors can shrink this masseter muscle and slim the face. This is quite a straightforward treatment. Botox is the only method of reducing the jaw without surgery.
How do I know if I have a strong masseter?
When clenching the teeth together, the masseter muscles is the muscle that bulges out of the side of the face near the jawline. Using Botox injections here will slim and reduce the size of the masseter muscle and there make your face look less angular and wide. Optically this treatment makes your face shape more oval or rounded, by making the lower face less angular. People are therefore more drawn to your cheek bones and eyes.
What causes masseter muscles to become bigger?
The cause of strong masseter muscles is genetically. Korean, Chinese and South East Asian often have genetically larger masseter muscles.
Like any other muscle, the more these muscles are moving and working, the stronger they become. If someone suffers from teeth grinding or bruxism, your masseter muscles often become over-developed. Bruxism is the medical name for this phenomenon and it can wear the teeth down and cause headaches and lower face pain.
Slimmer jaw and prevents teeth grinding.
